Axwave, Inc. is an international software development company that collects data on TV audiences. Currently the company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, and has two additional European offices.The company was founded by Damian Scavo an algorithmic trader, and Loris D’Acunto a nuclear physicist. The company’s technology enables smart devices to recognize TV content. Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) algorithms utilize a device’s microphone or speakers to recognize content, this includes live TV, Over the Top TV, TV advertisements, and music in both the Continental United States and Europe. Axwave’s technology is currently used by public companies through paid panelists to track key behaviors and viewing habits of specified users. The panelist device technologies that are created are 100 times cheaper and more efficient than the technology that was previously being used in households. Additionally, this allows for recognition of data that has not been watermarked. The technology is also delivered in a software development kit for application developers. This (SDK) encrypts, compresses and sends small bytes of data to servers, which then matches against a worldwide media catalogue. The algorithms used are unique in the field, as they measure OTT, and have currently met billions of queries per month.
